Re: Minecraft.
If you two cant get on a server why not try "map share",its pretty popular.This is how it works,one person starts a world and plays for a couple of days,they then upload the save to somewhere like 4Shared and someone else downloads it and then has it for a couple days etc,etc.

i seem to find a lot of coal now but hardly any iron. any idea what's the best level to mine at for iron?
is there some way of telling what level your mining at, like in relation to sea level? hmm maybe i could make a sign with the level number

Re: Minecraft.
If you press f3 and look for the Y number of the left hand side of the screen, it will tell you what level you are on, just go upto the surface and use F3 again at the same level as water if you want to know what level that is. I think iron is just on any random level, I've seen plenty at all levels you've just been in a random empty area or it's just behind a layer of rock you've not mined yet.

Re: Minecraft.
there's been an update.
Minecraft Beta 1.5
* Weather (rain, snow, thunder)
* Statistics
* Achievements
* Detector rail
* Booster rail
* Performance improvements
More statistics and achievements will be added over time as we develop the game. They’re only stored locally at the moment, but we’ll slowly be rolling out online storing of achievements over time.
it's raining inside my house lol,
i'm thinking it's probably treating the glass skylight as air
edit - got bit of a fright when the thunder roared, that'll teach me to have the volume up

Re: Minecraft.
Sweet I look forward to seeing that, I thought they just did updates on Fridays. I think the booster rail is going to be the most useful thing in the update, but all of it sounds good apart from achievements, they hold no interest for me.

Re: Minecraft.
I just watched a video on how to make booster rails and you need gold to do it which gives gold more of a use than just to make watches. Boosters don't look very powerful and they might be a bit jerky as you slow down and speed up. I just tested and the old way of boosting still works, I might just put the new boosters it to keep the speed up, hopefully the ride stays smooth.

No cloud can't move through solid brick walls, what you saw were ghost clouds. Clouds that cried themselves to death, you need to speak to them, tell them you love them and that they need to pass on from this world.
I've finally got some snowing going on, I've been trying to find some weather for ages.
There are new sapplings in the update, which is great because you can pick which type of tree's you want to grow, and there appears to be a new kind of tree which is a bit darker than the normal brown bark tree's and grows differently.

Re: Minecraft.
I had a graphical glitch yesterday where a patch of gorund vanished for a second and also I'm sure I saw a little waterfall appear on a rock and then vanished.

Re: Minecraft.
Another update today to fix a few glitches from 1.5.
Game no longer crashes when Detector Rails are placed.
Blocks can now be placed on Snow / Water.
Rain no longer goes through translucent blocks.
At the moment I`m using LB Photo Realism Texture Pack till JS gets updated.

Yea like Mia i'm very much in camp not impressed. Don't see me playing this although I did hear about a World War mod someone is making where you build castles and attack each other that sounds interesting. There's also the Zombiecraft mod which looks a laugh but is just a poor mans Call Of Duty.

Re: Minecraft.
I've finally made a portal to the nether, I was going to just build one on the surface but then I decided I didn't really like the idea of having something like that out in the open so I just started digging straight down outside my house and went all the way down to bedrockand built a little strine down there, well I say little it took ages to make. The otherside of the portal comes out at bedrock as well, I might secure the otherside of the portal before really exploring.
I doubt I'll keep this portal for long, most likely I'll just get some glow stone and then make another portal in a better shrine and seal the current one off, I'll take the torches away when I do to make it interesting to go back to.

Here's a couple of screens from when I first reached the surface(?) of the nether.
I think you can guess what my reaction was when I saw that awesomeness.

Re: Minecraft.
The demo is on PCgamer magazine, also downloadable on the website. Lasts just over 90 minutes.
I dug a hole, then made a stair to get out of my hole. Then made a larger set of stairs somewhere else and dug out a quant chamber. Chucked in some lighting. Then I went out and killed some cows. Then I uninstalled it with 91 minutes left.

Heres what I think of it. The meat of the game is digging around looking for better materials to make better tools with to go find better materials with. With these materials yes you can build interesting things, but only after you've spent hours looking for the things you need. All it says to me is Time Sink for very little reward as everything looks like a turd anyway.

Re: Minecraft.
Tip: Killing pigs by setting them on fire means you don't have to go through the slightly annoying process of cooking the pork.
