Post by Fenon Wed May 05, 2010 2:50 am

Looking forward to this game (Need to sell others to keep my word about not getting more games this year, I didn't want to buy more games because I have too many, but selling stuff means I have less).

Its literally GTA 4 in the wicky wicky wild wild west.

Its made by Rock Star and it uses the same engine as GTA 4, same controls and weapon mechanics. And its been said that the world is about the same size as GTA 4's map.

Online is supposed to be a heavy part of this game, I hope that they don't close off the things you have on the single player map when you go online, like they did with GTA 4, no gun shops, no clothes shops. There were just guns on the ground and you changed your look in a menu. Made the online city feel lifeless. It was still extremely fun to play but it did taint it a bit. Still I think that this will be a lot better online.

I've not pre-ordered it yet but yeah I'm excited about this one. Think it'll be the best game of the year. They say Wild West games are hard to make because of the rustic buildings, really like the look (Loved cowboy movies as a boy) it really looks like one of the old cowboy movies, I also like that the NPC's don't have perfect teeth, thats a nice touch.

Anyone gone for the Limited Edition? I ordered from Game as sometimes preorders turn up early and their giving away the assassins outfit for free, but I’m real tempted by the Limited addition with added golden guns and war horse.

The Yanks don’t even have the Limited addition available to them, just the choice of having one of the above extras included depending on who they order from, that kinda makes the Limited addition even sweeter. Twisted Evil

Ahh what to do what to do??? scratch

I thought about the Limited Edition but I don't like golden guns and I don't really care about the war horse. Just doesn't seem to be enough there to spend £10's on.

A friend I'll be playing online with wants to ride around on Donkeys and be Mexicans, I ain't got much choice about it. And I like straw hats!

Rented a cowboy movie to get me even more in the mood for the game.

I wonder if you can get pink shirts in the game? Might dress all frilly like and call our posse Broke Back.

They say the game is twice the size of San Andreas should be good.

    An idea of the scale:

    Red Dead Redemption 2upadky

I'm hoping they include the thing from GTA 4 that let you pick up objects in the game and throw them, I really want to walk into a bar, pick up a beer and throw it at someone to start a bar fight.

You can't really trust his previews, not because he's lying its just he's a gamer and he gets pulled into the hype. He got hyped up for Empire Total War as well (As hyped up and on the Empire forum) waiting for the game to come out and it sucked, he did a retrospective when Napoleon Total War came out and said how angry he was about Empire not living up to its hype (At all it didn't even have all of the stuff it said it would have and still doesn't really bad game, I can't even tell you how bad). He's just an excited gamer. But he is entertaining and he said a few things I didn't know about in that video.

Might get that box set, I don't think I've seen them. I don't think I'll get them before the game comes out though I have a cowboy DVD to watch and I have to write something before the game comes out because I won't when it comes out. Also got The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony to finish. So I have plenty to do till Red Dead comes out, still wish I already had it... Got an underlying current of come on hurry up I need it to be release day already COME ON!!!! The next few days should pass quickly but mon tues weds and thursday morning are going to be killers (Expecting the game to arrive a day early).

I don't think the multiplayer character creator is going to be much good, I'm almost certain that the bodies are completely per-made and you just pick the cloth/weapons. That said I think there will be a fair few character models and outfits (bit annoyed that you can't mix and match tops bottoms and hats the are just complete sets), even with GTA 4's much worse sellection it was still good online so I suppose it is something I can live with. But Rockstar are certainly behind the times with their character creation system really with the level of detail you get in most games even free ones I would think a company like Rockstar would do better.

I think one of the first things I'll do when I get the game is to go online and make a character to see what its like, it's on of my biggest concerns with the game (The other was the run animation and my concerns were confirmed when I saw a video of him running its a crap run animation like most of Rockstar games, those guys can't do running). I think once I've seen that I'll go back and play the single player campaign, partly because it will have a tutorial of sorts and also because online will likely have things that you don't get till later in the single player game i.e. being able to travel all over the map.

Hopefully we'll be able to steal peoples guns, online and offline like in GTA. I'm a little bit worried about how you get guns I don't want it just to be that you buy them in shops, or worse online just unlocking more guns as you level up, but not buying them in shops or stealing other peoples, online I would like to walk into a gun shop and buy them I don't want to just pick them on a list because that will take me out of the feeling of being there. I don't really know how it should be but I know I want to buy guns in shops and take them.

When I do go online, later that night if my friend has the game (Not sure if he's pre-ordered yet) I think I might convince him to go with me and explore the deep unwalked areas, he wants to practise shooting, so we'll have to find some where that has things to shoot at. I suspect though by this time I'll have a really nasty headache and won't much be in the mood. I'm off the day I'm expecting the game to arrive and other than Kung Fu I've cleared everything till Tuesday so I can really tear into this game.

Eeeeeeee I hate looking forward to games, I'm glad I didn't hear about this when it was first announced, I'd be dead by now.

I'm going to watch The Proposition (Rented) tomorrow and also 3:10 to Yuma a remake I think thats on channel 5 tomorrow (9pm). Hmm just looked to check the time of that Yuma movie and saw that there is another Western on as well Young Guns 2: Blaze of Glory, saw a Young Guns movie before and it was a bit silly, but what the hell YEEEEEEEEE HA and all that.

Free-roam looks like it'll be very limited, most of what you can do offline won't be online. To be expected really when you look at GTA 4's free roam but not very revolutionary. But like GTA 4 it will still be fun.

Theres not really much I wanted from free roam, just to use shops (not heard anything about that yet) ride trains (Heard its not in F-R) really quite annoyed they don't appear to be in F-R and get drunk (Again heard its not in f-r), wanted to get drunk online with a friend and try to kill off a town. And since they say you can go hunting in free mode its quite annoying that people say you can't skin online, there isn't a great deal of point in hunting without the reward. Its a bit concerning really because in GTA 4 there was a big difference in the feel of the city online and offline even though there isn't a great deal of difference between online and offline (Except there are no mini games or missions) it just felt vacant and hollow. So I'm hoping Red Dead doesn't suffer from that, but I'm expecting that it might.

Piss, just watched a video of a guy sellecting his character on free roam and he didn't have any option to change clothes, all you can do is pick a body from a list of premade bodies, you can't change anything. So Rockstar have taken a step backwards there, but hey maybe there are enough bodies that it doesn't matter too much, they are all well made. Don't know about weapons and I don't think you can buy things in shops on free roam. Hmm but the guy in the video just picked a plant on F-R but why, what does that do...

From what I gather the idea of hunting in free roam is to get xp to level up, levelling up gives you more skins better mounts and weapons. But what I don’t like the sound of is when you die you spawn close to where you died so expect mega ganking until this is fixed.
But there are supposed to be gang hideouts to attack as well as villagers you can upset in free roam.

I watched a video where a guy was killing certain animals, it had something to do with his journal (Ingame not his real journal) and it put experience into certain areas like I don't know sharp shooter (It only flicked up for a second), animals appear to be quite tough I was thinking they would be really easy to kill but from watching the video they are really quick and move in hard to shoot ways.

Hmm spawning, the video I saw earlier didn't look too bad, they were close but most of the time the guy did have time to move. I mean from what I saw it wasn't like GTA 4 where you spawn right next to someone, but I would have liked the option in the free-roam either as a personal option or one from the room to spawn at a distance you choose, or a place or posse member (They do have the go to posse leader thing).

Doesn't look like you have too much ammo, which is good I'm glad you don't have GTA 4 amounts of ammo, its like 30/30 bullets, you can pick up more but thats usually like 12. I've heard it said that you carry all the guns you find but those that are the same type as your currently using go into your inventory and you can change them over I think at any time.

Blood on the body looks good, from what I've seen it looks like blood thats been soaked up into the material, also I'm not sure if this is right, just a guess really but it seems like say if the bullet goes in through the front there will be a small blood spot on the front and a large one on the back where the bullet comes out.

There are some interesting mounts as well, I won't say what they are because I don't want to ruin that for you but you can see them on the list of mounts in free roam.

Oh and my order has been changed from preorder to pending.

Wouldn't do me much good anyway if it did arrive tomorrow I'd get it just as I have to go to work and then that would be hell. I'm off on Thursday and then its 5 days of nearly nothing but red dead.

Horse animations are amazing, saw a guy get too close to the edge of a steep slope and the horse started digging its hooves in and then fell on its side. They appear to have the same kind of physics as the humans.
