This going free to play too. I quite liked it when it first came out but didin't think it was worth a sub. Might be worth another look.

Oooo nice, see you on there then. At least on this we'll be the same level and be able to play together.
I'm going to go old school and use the name Fenoman, if anyone remembers me and Karl2k did a whole thing about Fenoman on the old PSO forum on Gamefaqs, I think maybe before we had the Ragol Arms.

Re: Champions online.
Sorry no it hasn't it's been out since 2009. Still downloading the update, lord I'm tempted to leave my PC on over night, might see if I can set it to turn off after a few hours.
Just watched a video, game looks decent. I may just get lost in the char create for a few day, looks like it's more detailed than the near insanely detailed perfect world. It had better still be detailed now that it's FtP.

Ok the patch actually isn't big, I think they've just been overloaded by people wanting to play the game. Their website was slow as hell as well earlier. It says the patch is 180mb, I think the download speed must be just a few kb.

Re: Champions online.
Yeah, decent game. Get ready to spend hours tweaking the look of your char, there's so many things you can do with them. When you finally get into the game you'll have to spend a lot of time playing with the games settings, I'm dropping down to 5 fps sometimes when I turn with graphics maxed out it's over 60 normally though, got to find whats causing the problem. It could just be a compatibility thing though so don't worry too much, there are a lot of options so I'm sure no matter what your spec (Within reason) you can have a great looking game, I think it's just the draw distances seem to be long in the game.
I spent ages making my char and then realised I forgot to call him Fenoman. . .
Gave Fenoman ice powers, and his costume is just traditional no fuss super hero, might give him a cape this time round.
Going to make Gunrick as well and give him melee and strength based powers and use some of the nice clothes to make him into a semi warrior monk.
There is soo much you can do to your char, I was a little concerned I wouldn't like this game, that it wouldn't live upto the idea in my head (Usually the case) but it very much does. Love the game so far.

Hmm the Monk thing didn't work out the way I wanted so I made Gunrick into a kind of cyber punk.

Re: Champions online.
Had a look at a few vids, looks like the standard mmo, just replace mage with superhero.

Re: Champions online.
Well it is and it isn't, it is an MMO so it plays like one but there are differences that might not really be noticed in a video. In the start area the city is under attack and near the end there is a cannon which needs to be readied and protected, after a while of doing this quest I realised I wasn't the only one doing it and it was an open quest which is a nice touch. The powers work differently and give the game a different feel, and combat generally is a bit different.
Something which I find interesting is that in most mmo's people just wear what gives them the best stats, but in this the clothes don't have stats and instead of looking at people who have been playing for a long time and have cool looking gear I look at people and appreciate the characters they have created, and you can see that some people have really spent a long time creating their look and their character, some people haven't but they are fun to look at as well and I don't know how to look at other peoples bios yet, you can write a bio for your character. It's a bit more roleplay because of this, you aren't just creating a character to play with, you create a personality.
I won't say it's the best MMO out there but it's certainly worth playing.
I don't know how involved the pay shop will be yet, I don't trust games that go from P2P to F2P, I think they restict what you can do more, but I've not seen anything too worrying in the shop.

Re: Champions online.
I'll be giving it a go at the weekend. I enjoyed playing the game but didn't think it was worth the sub. Doing the starting area every time you make a character can be a bit of a pain. At least with wow you have different areas for each race. Just playing about with character creation is good fun though.

Yeah you can get lost in it for hours. The quests are good, they are proper super hero quests. You also need to be in a team to do them they are quite tough on your own.

Re: Champions online.
The more I play the game the less like a normal MMO it feels, the equipment and skills systems definitely are different, don't really care for the equipment system but I do quite like that it doesn't mess with the look of my character, on this game anyway. With the start of the game it actually would have been nice if they had made a little cinematic where you can see the origin of your character based on your powers, and have the introduction be something to do with learning you master your new powers. The beginning is fun the first time you play but after that it would be nice to skip it.
By the way the problem I had with fps has gone, I clicked on the trouble shoot menu in the video settings and click a thing to make the frames stable, had no problems since then with everything maxed.

Re: Champions online.
Yeah just watched a bit of a video introducting this game on Youtube, the guy makes an good point the combate is more involved than normal MMO's, it's a hybrid of traditional MMO and action adventure.
Other than Bri is anyone else going to try this game?

Re: Champions online.
The game is nearly completely free to play, there are loads of quests, but you have to go out and look for them they don't show up on the map unless you are very close which I quite like, you don't know how much you have to do, you can just be walking a long doing something else and then bam, you see a quest, they want you to go in to a burning building and save people. There are two quest sets in the pay shop but I think of them as extras rather than things taken out to force you to pay. Really the only thing in the pay shop are the costume parts, there are a load which are free and you can certainly build very nice characters using the free bits, a nice thing is though that you can buy each piece on it's own so you don't have to pay for a whole set if you just want the chest piece. Other things that are useful in the pay shop are extra character slots, you only get 2 and extra costume slots, you can edit and save costumes but you need to go to the tailor to do it and that costs a small amount of ingame cash, but with the costume slots you can change your look on the go, it's nothing which is vital to the gameplay but if you want to roleplay as having a secret identity you can have one slot being your costume and the other your day to day clothes, or you could if you wanted RP that your character has different states each getting a different level of power. I have to say that the extra slot interests me I've already made and saved quite a few different looks for Fenoman and Gunrick so being able to change look at will would be nice.

Re: Champions online.
Good I need a super hero team by my side, the Arms of Justice! I need to take a few place that require more than one person, tried to do it on my own but I just get mobbed.
We'll need a good super hero group name, Ragol Arms doesn't really fit the game.
The game supports Xbox controllers by the way if you want to try that. Might see if I can find my non Xbox controller and see if that works.

That’s good news, but was planning on using a wireless laptop keyboard/mouse combo thingy that’s on it's way so I can use the telly.
I'm not good with controlling character via keyboard so good to know about the pad option.
And if I play it will depends on how it runs on my system.
