My main issue with Xbox's is that they have charged you to play online, I'm guessing this new one will as well so I wouldn't buy it because of that anyway, but even if it let you play online for free I wouldn't buy it now because of the stupid choice to make you pay to play used games. Having said that there are some PS3 games that have similar anti used game security in them and that has just about killed my interest in console gaming, I have sometimes bought new games that do have that crap in them but if they aren't games that I've pre-ordered I don't buy them any more and I rarely pre-order games. Since I hardly play on my PS3 I don't keep up-to-date with what's coming out so no pre-ordering.

Gaming is getting too big of a headache. Punishments for piracy and greedy retailers are being up onto the customers that love the games and have paid money to play them, that is screwed up.

Don’t get me started, I thought the name was a joke at first, then when they showed the console I thought it was a false cover and were about the reveal the real console and name by lifting it off, Then It dawned on me that Xbox ONE was the real name and my first reaction….. Sod that I'll wait for xbox 2.

Anyway I'm glad it's not backwards compatible and glad it can’t play my large collection of arcade games, Now I have no reason to stick with xbox and may well be looking to Sony for the first time since PS1, at the moment I have no intention of gaming on Xbox One having to wave the controller about and shout commands at the Kinect doesn’t fit into my family environment and will make late night gaming impossible.

    Cya Microsoft.

It gets worse, you can only play offline for one hour, then you need to connect to be able to continue playing and the console needs to connect every 24 hours.

There's nothing on XBone that I'm desperately interested in, but tbh there wasn't anything on XB360 I had to buy either, however with PS4 I really want to play infamous 3, FFXV, Dragon Age 3, Kingdom Hearts 3 and that sorcerer game looks really good so I guess its the one for me.

Might also invest in a WiiU - the games look really fun - all be it the usual line up of zelda, mario, mario and moar mario oh and pokemon with bayonetta 2 put in there.

Zombie U is a lot of fun, the single player looks boring and maybe even tagged on but local multiplayer is very fun. Not really played any other Wii U games, my sister has one but I think they've lost interest in it and gone back to the Wii.

Guys this is the xbox one topic for talking about how much drugs microsoft were on when they came up with it, no wait thats windows 8 anyway i digress Sony is not luved up they are evil scumbags, the price of their console is by no means cheap and cheerful!

the ps4 is still a rip off a ridiculously high price. Especially here in the UK, the price is to be dearer here than usa, europe, canada australia etc, why the hell should we have to pay more just cause we live in the uk it's an absolute disgrace!

another example of sony screwing as much money out of gamers as possible is the online subscription for ps+, the one thing they had going for their previous console was not having that fee.

in saying that though valid point is it's still cheaper than the xbox one even if you factor in the built in kinnect versus optiononal Eye purchase. Also you don't have some confusing controlling second hand games bollocks. microsoft dont think this is an issue. they've lost the plot. For the first time i have to say sony deserve to suceed here. the more i read about microsoft one (gaaaaaaaaay name much) the more i think i wouldnt buy it if it was 50 quid the arseholes!

if it aint broke dont fix it. both companies are guilty of this changing shizzle that doesnt need changing grr

We've always been ripped off compared to a lot of other places, as far as technology goes or at least gaming. The PS4's price is a marked improvement over the price of the PS3 at launch, that was £500 odd wasn't it? I think when I bought mine years after release it was still around £300. If I do buy a PS4 it won't be for a while, I don't entirely trust Sony, I'm expecting to see things creep in. I'm thinking they will draw people in by not being as evil as Xbox then then when sales slow down and people start to forget about the anti used game rage we'll see tighter Playstation passes come in, or something alone those lines.

Given time the PS4 will go down in price anyway, I doubt it will to long before it's in the £260-£270 area, maybe a year.

Tell us how you really feel DS9, shoot from the hip and take no prisoners?
    Don't mind if i do...

Never mind 500 or 400, how is it in these hard times is charging over £300 quid for a games machine an acceptable practice? An mind this is all befire ye fork oot for a game or twa or tae play online or use sonys eye thingy.

Mortgages, petrol, rent, tax, products, consumables, all costing more and more everytime ye turn aroond! maybe that's okay for bankers and politicians but us mere mortals huvnae sniffed a pay rise for a good while jimmy!

The cost of living is extortionite here in rip-off Britain as it is. I'm lucky, i havn't been paid off yet but did i get a pay rise? Did i wheaky! Hae ye seen the price of a loaf o breed, an dinnae get me started on a box o washin powder, help ma boab!

Microsoft's machine is of course much more than a games machine, though they still want to control and own the bloody thing after you give them all your hard earned dosh for it. Rather than bring us 'the future' with a device to improve our llves that does everything i suspect their motive is to be that new shiny trendy fashinable item brand that sony did with playstation and also ape Nintendos charge into mainstream gimmicky appeal but my how they've stuck twa fingers up at their loyal serious gaming fanbase in doing so, in their own words 'not an issue' translation 'they don't care or give a monkeys'.

Abba must be Sony and Microsoft's favourite band cause it's all 'money money money' with them.

Bacwards compatability was a great thing, i hate how they both aren't doing just so they can resell old classics we've alreadady paid for before by way of their online stores.

Well they can stick it where the sun don't shine til the price comes doon. In fact i reckon til ye can get one second hand for a fraction an no let them profit, the tossers.

I'd agree with DS9's point about Sony and their poor track record,
I 'd like to remind everyone that PSN was down for over a month last year
while they tightened security after private accounts were hacked.

My main point - The cheek of it is this:
Microsoft like putting about the rubbish that when we buy games or software, we only purchase
the license to use them and not own them. But this doesn't square with why Xbone costs £80 more in UK than in US etc.
previously the cause was given as taxes and shipping costs.

Love the rant DS9 and don’t get me started on the price of washing powder Mad

    But….

As  I’m a Sony fanboy today (I say today as fickle is my middle name). Just to clarify about PS+ it isn’t quite as evil as xbox live,  yes you will need it for PS4 online of mainstream games  but it’s not needed for free to  play games such as PlanetSide and possibly PSO2 (not announced but  it’s bound to happen seeing as it’s already on vita), also media like iplayer, love film etc  don’t require PS+.

I’d pay for it anyway because of the free stuff and discounts, yes it has a sub but when you brake it down monthley it’s a lot less than I pay for Netflix.

I am finding it hard to get angry about PS+, I want to because I was so angry about Xbox Live. It's hard because I have though about buying it for what it offers anyway, hopefully they won't reduce what you get from PS+ now that you kinda have to have it. In the past you could download enough free games that the service paid for itself (If you want those games), and right now it's really paying out as Vis can tell you. My only real issue is that I would feel obligated to play online enough to make it worth me having it, and I wouldn't be about to just pop on for 10 minutes every 6 months like I'm kind of doing now without wasting loads of money.

I haven't paid over £35 for xbox live for years. Probably nearer £30. I'm not too fussed about the online requirements as I'm pretty much connected to live whenever I play on the 360.

£400 is a lot of money for a games machine, but that is at launch. I'm sure both consoles will come down in price and have some good bundles about 6 months later so I might even wait for a bit. The US is price for both consoles excludes sales tax. Ours includes 20% vat.

The only real problem I have with the xbox one is the kinect. I just don't want one.

Agree bri I've just bought 12 months gold for just under £27 can't find that sort of deal for PS+ not any that are still available anyway.

Its Mr Fickle back again, for and against the Xbox One.

    FOR

Any games I buy can be played by other designated  family members on another XBone even if I’m not signed in, But only myself and any one family member can play at any one time so if Son 1 is already playing Son 2 will have to wait or play another game. (can have up to 10 family members  doesn’t have to be family could be a mate in another county or even Scotland) this would mean my Son can join me in any of my multi player games
(Or sod of and play cod with his mates coz apparently dad's not good enough!....  little sh!t I taught him everything I know!)
From what I understand all those family members will be covered by my gold account but still retain there own gold identity.

Discs are not required to play games after the initial download it works like steam, games are tied to your account so will be available with your saves  from any XBone anywhere.
You can lend a disc to a friend (none family member) as long as they have been on your  friends list for 30 days, but from what I understand you can only do this once if friend gives it back you can’t then loan it to another friend, as yet I’m unclear if the game becomes part of the friends collection or if the disc is always required,  But if I can still play the game and My friend can also play without purchasing the game this has to be a plus.  But if friend turns out to be a git and sells it to a participating game shop/agent  my game serial number will be wiped and the game will uninstall from my system!

Not bothered by the need to connect once every 24hr and I wouldn’t mind the DRM reselling and used game thing to much if it helps pull new game prices down, Steam again is a good example of this.

    AGAINST

Needs two XBon’s to take advantage of the family thing.

Kinect…  It’s supposed to log you in automatically and recognise who’s holding the controller and speaking, it’s required 100% of the time switch it off and the XBone wont work.  Well… my 360 kinect was supposed to have facial recognition Ha! if I wear glasses, don’t  shave,  have a bad hair day (for some of you that’s a distance memory) it tells me to p!ss off,  I also need to be in a well lit room with no dark object behind me, In my home that ment having the lights on even when it’s sunny!!

So this new  Kinect  needs to be amazing work in small dark rooms even at night, cope with children dogs & cats wandering around without stalling the game and logging the dog in and me out.

    CONCLUSION

I’m not be going anywhere near an XBone untill the Kinect has been tested in real family homes by real familys.

Microsoft has announced it will remove DRM restrictions on Xbox One games and the need for you to have the Xbox One "always online".
Sources told whathifi.com that Microsoft was set to announce the changes earlier today, with games developers being informed first.
A post on Xbox.com now confirms the changes: "An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24-hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.
"Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360."

    VICTORY FOR GAMERS!!!

They pretty much had to do this, nice to see their heads aren't so far up their arses that they went ahead with it anyway though.

Angry Joe was right, he's been saying they can turn this 24 hour check thing off any time they like, in an interview someone from Xbox said "Are you a console developer Joe?" Suggesting he doesn't know what he's talking about, but I guess he did didn't Xbox Guy.

I suppose if there really isn't any difference between the Xbox III and the PS4's policies I could get an Xbox for the first time ever, my objection has always been that I didn't want to pay to play games online, but now the PS4 is doing it as well it doesn't really matter. I'm not saying I will get an Xbox III. I still don't like the Kinect being required, I don't trust it. I wonder what would happen if you set it into a block of plaster? It would still be connected to the Xbox but not be able to see or hear anything.

I can see the Xbox III being buggy now for a little while after launch, I mean they will be rushing to undo the crap they've put in, and I suppose games that make use of the features will also need to rush to remove it.

I’m disappointed to be honest, I was coming around to MS way of thinking,  being able to share games amongst the family for the price of one family gold  would have saved a lot of money.

Now we don’t have a choice we have two consoles that are now very similar yet one is cheaper and appears slightly more powerful than the other ,  Xbone now  needs to pull something outstanding out of the hat to sway me.

What MS were trying to do could have opened the flood gates for much worse things to happen, this was about our rights and drawing a line in the sand. Don't let the honey of paying a bit less cloud that, this is a good day.

I don't think we will be seeing many games released with DRM for a while.

That's pretty sweet, I had a feeling Steam would change their DRM, there seems to be an anti-DRM revolution at the moment. EA even dropped their DRM but I think that was only because they thought Xbox III and PS4 were going to crank theirs way up.
