Star Trek Online was bought by Prefect World and they are making it free to play very soon, actually according to the video I just watched it's open beta tomorrow.

Re: Star Trek F2P
You know the answer to that.
I'm watching the Star Trek Online video an it looks like the show and has the feel of the show. One thing though is that the Borg are the starting area gimps, which though kind of a cool way to start the game is kind of an insult to the Borg. It would also be nice if phasers stop doing damage to the Borg after a few shots unless you change frequency. It's a little pointless to do that but it would help with realism, but giving a button to change the frequency just for that is a little excessive. Space combat looks amazing, the way enemy ships explode is soo good, I was expecting the usual dull effects but it's great, ship combat is more like a Space RTS game except that you only control 1 ship, there was an old Star Trek game that let you control your shields etc and you can control how much power goes to which side of the shields in this too. Looks like a lot of the game is free as well according to the guy doing the video, he said by level 25 a lot of the restrictions get lifted.
Would quite like to play this sometime, but not going to at the moment.

I'll give it another go. I did quite like it but didn't think it was worth a subscription.

Might give this a go myself. All my friends at Uni are playing the Old Republic this now so would be amusing given the classic Star Tek/Wars rivalry.

Re: Star Trek F2P
Had a quick look last night. I couldn't remember much about how to actually play it, and had had a talent re-set, so didn't stay on long. I'll do a bit of research on builds and give it another go. If you didn't know, you gameplay usually involves entering a system and engaging in ship battles followed by a ground mission. It's quite polished now and is deffo worth a look.

USS Ragolarms... It's never going to be the pride of the fleet, crewed by a bunch of drunks who don't really know what they are doing, didn't read the instruction manual and just press buttons to see what happens. Flown by a navigations officer who has yet to find his way to the bridge. Still it has the best games room in the fleet.

You know what? You don’t know how right you are.
I've played up to the space part of the tutorial and now when I load it's not giving me the training guide telling me what to press, so at the moment USS Ragolarms is adrift until further notice.

Re: Star Trek F2P
Logged back into this today. I bought it when it came out, and it was shit so that was that.
Space combat isn't as fun as I remember it for some reason.
Ground combat is still awful, but not quite as bad as I remember.
Still doesn't really feel like Star Trek. But hey it's free. And not bad for it.
