Tribes Ascend in open Beta

I think you have to buy the finished game but it's in open beta if you want to give it a try.

LOL it looks so much like Halo I'm wondering how they get away with it.

Edit.. Oh I see apparently Halo is a Tribes clone, We live and learn.

It's fast paced, it may look a bit like Halo but I think it plays different. Besides, only 2 of the Halo games are on PC.

Besides if you are talking about the way the characters look it's hardly an original style, cartoons I watched as a kid where using armour that looked just like that. The weapons remind me of things like Quake and Unreal Tournament more than Halo.

The whole art style in general remind me of Halo, guns buildings landscape etc.. My lad plays a lot of Halo Reach and if it wasn’t for the Tribes heading on that intro video I would have mistaken it for Halo, But that’s not a bad thing I’m not slaging Tribes off at all I think it looks very good, but I would suck as I stink with Kboard & mouse.

Yeah calling something Halo is hardly an insult.

Just played a quick practise match and it's got odd controls and no aiming down the sights that I noticed but the controls are odd so I should maybe look at what buttons do what. Looks pretty cool though, I've been waiting for a shooter thats not in some way built on realistic weapons etc.

Tried to play an online game but couldn't, it's like the second day it's been open beta so the traffic must be heavy, I'd guess in the next few days they'll open more servers, I also didn't try to get in for long.

Can you practise with bots?

Sort of they are just moving targets really for you to get your eye in and learn controls, nothing worth playing really.

The game is fairly hard but with the right weapons it gets easier.
