Magicka ATTN Popp.y, Mia.

I've only played the demo but I can tell you this game is kick ass. It's fun and funny, clever. All good stuff. I want to get the game but its really more of a co-op game so I need someone else to play with, which is the only reason I've yet to get it. I don't like wizards but these guys are cool.

And now it has the best expansion pack EVER!!! Seriously I don't think it gets better.

I think I'm going to get this it looks like an amazing game, but it's really good as co-op do you guys want to get this game as well? It's only £7.99.

I just bought it so I hope you guys do as well, you appear to be able to make up a load of different spells.

Spent much more than I was intending this month on a mothersday gift, was just going to buy a new sink and unit for it to go onto now I'm paying for half of her kitchen to be redone, because there was a 64% off offer on the kitchen stuff. So Magicka is the last game I can afford to buy this month, unless something special comes up. Shouldn't really have bought Magicka, I've been resisting it for a while but there's a Yogscast thing on youtube about it and I want to watch but if I do there will be many spoilers as it's a playthrough of the game.

Oh dear making myself laugh at the stupid spells I've been making. I made one that was completely lethal to me as soon as I cast it, and it's not the rock that falls on your head. I can't remember what that spell was now, I'll need to experiment some more.

... I need to stop playing with spells after I've just done something that I don't really want to repeat, I always end up killing myself. Try enchanting your sword thats quite fun, to enchant first pick your elements, then hold shift and left click. Enchantments only last one shot which is a shame, I've only used the one element on the sword so far, going to try playing around with mixtures.

How are you finding the demo Mia?

The controls did my nut, keep trying to move with the keyboard. Guess you get used it. Humour was good though. It's gone now. I still can't afford to buy it, so didn't see much point carrying on.

Yeah you do get used to the controls but yep really weird to start with. I got rid of the demo as well, didn't complete it either.

I think it is meant for multiplayer, in multiplayer you can be revived by other players. The reason thats important is because some of the spells send you flying off the map to your death, which in multiplayer is funny because other people can revive you and you can continue on, in single player its not so funny because you can't be revived it's just game over, well return to the last check point.

I still piss around with spells at the worst times, oh and yeah you can mix elements when you enchant your sword, 4x fire and earth I think is my favourite. although just arcane is sweet. Not talking about power, just looks, the whole enchantment thing isn't really that practical. My go to spell is lightning fire lightning fire lightning arcane, which fires a powerful beam of death that makes the enemies sparkle and sets fire to them, it's deadly and a light show all in one how can that not be great?

The funny and quite nice thing about this is your spells are just about as deadly to you as any enemy. I know that may seem like a really bad thing but it play into the whole quirky wizard thing and is funny, it will be really funny online in co-op. I've healed enemies, electicuted myself to death blown up myself and the things I've summoned.

The controls work well also the important thing in this game is mixing spells so putting them in an easy commonly used place like on the q,w,e,a,s,d keys is smart because we use them for just about every game and they can put the other controls around those keys so we can get to the with ease. I have during the game tried to move using those keys even after playing the game for quite a long time.

A nice thing also is that when you are stuck in an area say a boss, just before you go to fight them you can try and think up new spells that could help give you that edge and win this time. I mixed ice into my lightning and arcane to create and electified, freezing death ray that slowed the enemies and damaged them quite a lot as well. I would like to create a shield spell that freezes enemies around me, I'm going to keep working on that to see if it's possible.

Nope just a one time buy the game for £7.99 never pay again thing, it's not an MMORPG, the online stuff is basically playing the story mode in co-op and there is a challenge mode, which I can only guess you have to fight off waves of enemies.

Oh it's a Steam game as well P.oppy.

Definite* buy for me, this can do Local co-op with a couple of 360 controllers.

One thing Steam does do which is good is give small studios like this a chance to be seen, I think without Steam I don't think this game would have had the chance to be successful.

This is so fun! When you said about spells I was thinking dull crafting but NO!! Randomly bashing the element buttons then letting rip, and there’s no mana to worry about. Brilliant!

This was supposed to be coming to xbox arcade, no idea why it hasn’t, a lot more fun than Torchlight that’s just been ported to live.

Been playing local co-op a lot today, it's been a long time since I've laughed so much, even when you both die it's never a chore going back and doing it again.

It’s nice playing this with the screens in duplicate mode, local multiplayer feels like a proper online game.

This has got hard very quickly, currently stuck at the end of chapter 6, when it crashed! A common problem apparently that can be fixed by changing one of the files, and that's advice from their own forum but why I should have to do this and it can’t be sorted by a patch I don’t know.

Speaking of patches the last one that was downloaded on Friday now says my game is moded and none of the steam achievements count, (like I care) apparently it’s a mistake that’s going to be fixed with another patch!

Yes it’s a good game but.... I do feel as if the good people who buy it on steam are merely beta testers for a Xbox Arcade game, particularly as the devs say the 360 controller is the preferred control method, when in this case mouse/keyboard is actually easier, Dialling up the spells with the right stick on the controller is a bitch!! (that annoyingly my kid has no problem with) I’ve now started using a controller to make it fair, but although it is fun as there are more mistakes that produce laughable results, it’s very frustrating when under pressure.

Edit.. A new patch has been released today that should fix the moded game error, and also fixed “item stuck in air when detached from death characters” that I experienced quite a lot.

Still feels like a beta.

Ha ha, I just started Steam and Magicka was sellected. I read the name of one of the achievements because it had an interesting icon, "It's over nine thousand!!!!" was the name of it, which is a Dragonballz quote which has been adopted by the internet, there are loads of videos.



I just posted the original because 90%+ of the videos people have made about it are shite.

Just tried the game with my controller, I like the movement better as it's the same as most games but using the spell wheel, not so good, it's something you can get used to I think but it's a bit slow even if you do and from what I remember casting fast is important.
