I yarred myself a copy. Already knew the skirmish game was good, played the beta a fair bit.
Campaign is a bit samey, every mission is basically walk from one end of the map to the other through hordes of enemy and then onto the next one. Last boss fight is fun though.
It's slightly different from the first two. You start of with 4 units like the first games. But you can recruit squads during missions, by collecting requisition and power from crates, and expanding your unit limit by capturing points. So by the end of each mission you usually have armies about the size of those in skirmish. The 4 guys you start with will be either the named heroes, who are indivduals and all very very useful, Or Honor guard aquads, who are fancy versions of standard squads, and raise your unit cap for bigger armies.
Only finished the space marine campaign so far, and about mid way through the Tyranid one. The missions are pretty much exactly the same for each campaign, with very minor flavor differences. Although they do have their own agenda for dong so, they are all going after the same boss guy.
Not wanting to spoil anything, but the Space Marine campaign is slightly dissapointing in not tieing up some plot issues from chaos rising. And the force commander is mysteriously awol and not mentioned at all as far as I could tell.
Normal difficulty is rather easy. With my space marines, I didn't suffer a single casualty througout the whole thing. Although that was helped by having the commander wargear dlc. it's amazing for the entire campaign, and makes commanders litle invincible godlike killers.
It is also rather short, though you do have 6 races to play through as which I guess adds replayability, but you will end up doing the exact same missions 6 times over.
