Star Trek Voyager and other Star Treks Empty Star Trek Voyager and other Star Treks

Post by Fenon Wed Oct 24, 2012 9:19 pm

Started watching this again, I used to watch it pretty fanatically but I lost interest in the last season and never saw the last episode (Not sure how close I came to it). Didn't really care until like the last week or so, I've started watching it again there's been a long enough gap that I don't totally remember the episodes though I do usually have a fairly good idea what is going to happen.

I think Voyager was my favourite of the Star Trek series. The thing that made me loss interest was that the crew were more like the cast of a Broadway show, a bunch of thespians and it got on my nerves.

I didn't really watch the Original Star Trek or the last Star Trek series Enterprise was it? I saw like two episodes of Enterprise, did not care for it.

Yeah I think I had issues with the sound track, I can't really remember what I didn't care much for maybe it was too sexualised with that Vulcan woman, a decontamination scene comes to mind but then you could argue that the Original Series was overly sexualised with Kirk taking his shirt off and having sex with every alien species that they boldly went to. I think the sexuality in Voyager was more fun, like when 7 of 9 made Harry Kim very uncomfortable. I don't think that was the reason I didn't continue watching it, I guess I just wasn't that interested I may have to give it another shot if it ever comes back onto TV, I did try to watch the last episode, I'm not sure if I turned off before it ended though. There are like 3 different channels showing episodes of the Next Generation at the moment, two channels have Voyager on and I think just one has the Original Series.

I was reading that there might be a new series set 10 years or so after Voyagers return, probably just a rumour. From what I read it would be pretty interesting though, the Federation was on hard times when DS9 ended and the technology Voyager brought back would allow them to explore further and stretch them thinner.

(Side note, Vulcan is in Firefox's dictionary but sexualised isn't... I do have the american dictionary version on this PC but I don't see that it should matter)

So Mr. 9 who's your favourite character and Captain? I doubt there's much point asking what Trek you liked best.

1 had a long think about characters but i can't decide, i like data, tasha, sisko, torres and odo although i'm probably missing out lots of other good ones. also i've read some of the books too and characters can come across differently inthem.

despite being a fan of babylon 5 i also loved ds9 lots but i'd probably say next generation's my favourite trek

I very much expected DS9 to be your favourite. Do you still watch Star Trek?

ds9 is probably my 2nd fave. it ended up as my gaming name due to thinking up a 3 letters to put on high scores such as soul calibur, don't reckon tng woulda worked the same.

not for a while but i would still enjoy to watch them.
i think i'd prefer watch a load of them in a session stylee.
this is howi like to rewatch old shows for instance i recently watched the entire first series of tour of duty and also the neon genesis evangelion anime series

i did see the new star trek film at the cinema and i've got all the films on dvd.
the only series i have on dvd is tng, i used to have some ds9 and voyager on vhs

So that's the origin of DS9, I confuse I did not wonder were the name came from since I thought it was as simple as you just liked DS9 a lot. Yep DS9 does sound a lot better than TNG, good choice.

I did not know there were books, I suppose it stands to reason that there would be. Are there original stories or are they just continuations of existing Star Trek TV shows?

DS9 is by far the best trek. i greatly enjoyed the last seasons which were very much a serial, not the episodes in a bottle trek usually is. I can happily get out the dvd's and watch them all any time.

Next gen has better great moments (Inner light, all good things, best of both worlds, measure of a man, all the q episodes etc) but theres quite a bit of dross (any wesley episode except that cover up one) so overall I don't find myself enjoying it as much as I might. A victim of 90's tv standards I guess. Does anyone actually think season 1 was any good? First Contact was a boss film. The rest are, meh.

I loved Voyager, but the finale was so bad. It's not bad as an episode, but as a grand finale it fails so hard. Never got round to buying the dvd's

I can't stand the ToS. Just my opinion, I've not watched much of it though. Only seen the first two movies.

there are also comics as well as books although the telly shows are seen as canon. there's also cartoons of the original series set after it.
the books are various settings mostly with the familiar telly shows characters however there are also other versions of star trek.
one of the geekiest things i ever did was try t compile a startrek timeline including the books comics films and tv. even sadder is the fact i apparently wasn't alone as the daystrom website has a most awesome star trek timeline http://www.ditl.org/

i think i'm okay with tos because i have fond memories of seeing the repeats with my parents. these repeats kept building the cult popularity and so the next generation debuting was a major event. as such the first tng series just had to be fairly decent not awesome because it had been so long since the original version it made the original look pantomine like in comparison. i can remember farpoint showing for the first time and being blown away - it was a no-brainer to keep watching.

interestingly early tng actually feels rather dated now whereas ds9 and voyager have weathered time slightly better.

I think actually I did try to watch episodes from the Original Series, I'm not sure how far I got and why I stopped, I certainly don't dislike it, the fighting in Star Trek has never improved (Don't know what it's like in Enterprise).

I very much like the old Star Trek movies, can't remember what the newest star trek movie was like, I don't think it was as good as the old ones. Can't remember enough about it to compare.

I saw an interesting documentary on cable "Trek Nation" about Star Trek's inception made by Gene Roddenberry's son Rod. ( missing on Youtube - Sad )
For the time, it was quality science fiction and the fact its template keeps getting recycled, shows how popular the original series and characters were.

I saw the last two episodes of the Next Generation on the weekend, I didn't think I had seen the last episodes of TNG. I suppose because it isn't really like the end, I guess the poker game at the end is, but the rest is like any other episode just a two parter. I do like the statement by Q that their next bold new frontier is within not without, it inverts what they have been doing.

I like the documentary about Star Trek fans myself, I've watched it a few times.

Started watching Enterprise, I am actually beginning to like it (Apart from the intro music). I wasn't just imagining it, it is more sexualised than other Treks, there's not an episode that goes by that doesn't have the Vulcan woman in her pajamas, I'm not sure why I'm using that as if it's an example of a bad thing...

I think the Enterprise ship is more like a submarine than a spaceship, that's what it reminds me of, a submarine is a lot like a spaceship so it does make a lot of sense for it to be like that.

Tasha is quite strange, I've seen loads of episodes without her in so when I see her in an episode she's like an extra in an away mission.

Tasha Yar didn't have a long stint on Star Trek then, I thought she might have been around for about half it's episodes. The way she died I expected her to have been brought back to life by the end, she died almost like an extra.

I love the bits in Enterprise that explain things in the Original series, like why the Klingon's look different.

i've started watching voyager now but i plan do get around to star trek and enterprise too. Garak was a great character in DS9. Also Vash and Ro Laren in TNG.
