The only thing stopping me maxing it is the Quad-core, i think I'll do alright tho.

Still only Dx9 though, so can't be pushing the boundaries to far.

Hoping PC version won’t be to buggy to start with, if it is I’ll persevere and start again once fixed. I just want to wander those hills. Wink

Done a little digging, my gpu falls amongst the “fairly certain these will give you the highest settings with all settings turned up” and my cpu falls in the “should be able to max this game rather comfortably”
To be honest I’d be surprised If I can run on ultra.

And I think this is the quote Stony was referring to.
"The Min specs get you playing, The recommended specs let you play on High, not on Ultra. You'll want beefier rig for that"

It looks very nice as expected especially the first time you get free of the start action and can stop to take in the scenery, it’s obviously been designed to have an impact. I did find the texture a little gritty in places I can’t put my finger on it perhaps there is just to much going on to take in, but at the moment despite the obvious improvements I kind of prefer the look of my moded Oblivion. I must also mention the Cat & Lizard people look amazing and are really convincing this time around.

I thought the start was better than Oblivions but I still prefer arriving on the boat in Morrowind, I can imagine that having to go through the start every time with a new character will become very annoying. Combat is good and so is 3rd person view, PC fanatics will hate that it plays better with a 360 controller, sorry but negotiating the menus with a mouse feels clunky and awkward.
What annoyed me was I couldn’t find an easy way to compare stats of weapons and armour in my inventury, to get stats from items you need to scroll over them then it would give a + / – figure to the item you had equipped. And the only way to see if that new piece of armour looks good was to come out and click 3rd person.

Only had a couple of hours last night and that was just enough time to get to the first town, there’s a lot going on, I wanted to go off and explore but so far the story has pulled me along from one point to another, and I didn’t want to let my new friends down. Smile

Btw the detected settings put me on high.

That’s a good question fen, and I’m not sure how to answer it they both do what they do very well, witcher 2 is the more moody while Skyrim oozes atmosphere, but they both look good, but witcher 2 plays more like a traditional rpg with go here do that quests while Skyrim gives you more freedom.

Still not installed this and after reading Steams Terms And Conditions I`m still not sure. This is the clause I`m hung up on...

you expressly grant Valve the complete and irrevocable right to use, reproduce, modify, create derivative works from, distribute, transmit, broadcast, and otherwise communicate, and publicly display and perform the User Generated Information and derivative works thereof in any form, anywhere, with or without attribution to you, and without any notice or compensation to you of any kind.

Nowhere in their EULA do they state what this "User Generated Data" comprises of and with other sketchy wording such as "may include, but is not limited to" and "allow them to collect data and under certain, not defined, circumstances they can share/give that data to "affiliates" , this is very dodgy indeed.

I`ve no doubt I`ll end up installing Steam but it will be on a separate pc that will only be used for Steam - no web browsing, no E-mail account - nada.

That’s scary who reads that stuff? I know I don’t Shocked but always have a niggle in the back of my mind that I could be signing my life away. Neutral
I know they only mean game content but the fact they don’t confirm that is worrying, but once registered you can switch steam to offline and as far as I’m aware you can then play without a connection.

Very true mate, and from comparison videos the 360 version aint to shabby. Razz

I’ve had a fiddle with the settings and apart from having AA off I’m now running on ultra, with fps between 35 – 60 mostly above 45, done about 4 hours on these setting not had any probs and comp temps are stable, very chuffed.

whether its intentional or not but starting Skyrim from its own .exe file by-passes Steam ...... No doubt this will get patched.

There aught to be more Screens but I keep forgetting to take them especially at the good bits.
The Brave Hart character is me, the Iron Madden is my companion, you don’t have to have companions but they come in handy for carrying loot.

I was going to say your modded to hell Oblivion looks better, not so sure though compairing them. Skyrim doesn't look as good as I was expecting though, however might be the case that it looks better in motion. Doesn't look bad I'm trying to decide if it looks slightly dated or if it had to be toned down because of the massive world. Or maybe I'm just off the mark, I might watch some videos.

I'd say fair comment, it is a console port afterall.

They say it's a new engine, but no it's the old engine optimised and reworked, it plays well though, and definitely the best game so far this year.
