Deus Ex
I have my theory test tomorrow morning and if I pass, I'm going to buy this game. The reviews I've seen have been good. Graphics don't really look amazing, but the gameplay and story look good. No idea which platform I'll get it on, I could play it on PC but I have the blue screen problem and I don't know if it has any kind of annoying internet security, there's something about Onlive whatever that is. Or go with the easier option of console, but no chance of mods there.

Re: Deus Ex
Deus ex was pretty heavily modded, and has proper hardcore fans to do so again. Go with the pc version imo.

Re: Deus Ex
Well I passed my theory test, I was scrambling to finish reading the highway code this morning. I started reading it about 3 months ago and have rarely taken the time to read any of it since, I think I missed a few pages at the end still.
I looked around in game shops for Deus Ex, GAME didn't have the game at all I thought that maybe Deus Ex had some kind of anti-secondhand thing to it so they weren't selling it, but it was in Game Station and that is basically GAME. Anyway the only reason I don't have it is because it would be cheaper to buy it online, I think. Arse ok the Augmented edition is sold out on the GAME website. I could buy it from Amazon or Play but they are more expensive. Might give it until I get paid and see what happens with it.

Hmm, I'm wondering about the extra weapons in the Augmented edition, Bri you have that edition now right? What are the weapons like, I mean are they in the game from the start of do you have to find/buy them? I'm not sure if I actually want those extra's if they bastardise the game.

Re: Deus Ex
You get two of the weapons from the get go, the double barreled shotgun and the silenced rifle. The shotgun is a bit meh. Plenty of punch to it, but can only fire twice before needing to reload and has a pathetic range. it shines at the start, then later becomes just a good way to get yourself killed. The sniper rifle is amazing. Sniper rifles are already cool when you find good sniping spots. Silenced just makes it better.
The grenade launcher you get from the bonus mission. I didn't use it.
Oh and the explosives are amusing, generally of limited use though. Found they just waste inventory space.
The game is very very good. Kinda weak story though.

Re: Deus Ex
Ya I'm fairly sure I know where the story will go, hoping that there is a plot twist that I'm not expecting, I'm mostly interested in the gameplay over the story in this one.
I might just get the limited edition, the augmented edition is is sold out just about every where, at least everywhere that it's fairly cheap, I'm not spending £44 on it. I'll get the mission, the grenade launcher and explosives as well as the automatic unlocker whatever that is. I'm only really interested in the mission, not a big fan of grenade launchers, the automatic unlocker sounds like a bit of a cheat item as well.

Arse to it GAME is down, I might just get the game from Steam, it's only a 9gb download or so... No I'll just get it from Amazon instead. Sorry I'm flip flopping.

Re: Deus Ex
Ok no more flip flop, I've ordered it. Looking forward to playing this, I now just have to avoid watching videos about the game. I've been watching OMFGcata's let's play of Deus Ex, but I just watched the first'ish mission, from now on though it will be a spoiler so I have to ignore the videos until I've played further than him.
I think I'll play on the Deus Ex setting, with those yellow visual indicators turned off, basically I want to play hardcore style. I'm not that good at sneaking around, which might end up being a problem for me.

Re: Deus Ex
It arrived today, and it's so so so good so far, Only just got to the bit where you go back to work so done nothing really yet. Love the look of the game, I've not been impressed with the videos I've watched but the actual game is really nice to look at maxed out, even the some what badly made NPC's look pretty good on these settings.
I've not been playing very maturely so far, I've been dragging bodies onto each other in sex poses, and I went into the womens loo's and was jumping to look over the top of the stalls. I'll post screens later.

Re: Deus Ex
Shit ok my pc's screen went black and it restarted, and then stayed black for ages once it got to the desktop. It did finally go back to normal but I'm getting pretty concerned about my PC, I don't even care much about the overclock now, if I need to get rid of that to fix it I will but I want to be sure it is that which is causing the problem.

Hmm someone that knows what they are looking for could most likely work this out but all I can say is that most of the game crashes have different information but one line keeps repeating:
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Also Event ID 1000 keeps repeating on all the blue screening game faults.
Looks like that is a major clue, but I don't have a clue what to do.
Thanks Dark I actually feel like I'm closer to finding out whats wrong, do you know what my problem might be?

Re: Deus Ex
That code is usually associated with defective hardware, bad ram, defective or unsupported video chipsets, in fact its a pretty generic error code.
If I was in your shoes I would update all video drivers, go to the manufacturers site for your hard drives and get their diagnostic tools and scan your drives. Then get rid of that overclock on your cpu, some games can be pretty fussy when dealing with overclocking on the cpu and gpu and it would be piece of mind to see if it still crashes/blue screens on default frequencies.
You could also save your log and send it to me so I can have a look.

Ok, well how do I remove the overclock and can I save it so I can turn it on again should I wish to?

Re: Deus Ex
It`s usually done in the BIOS, but please, if you dont know what you`re doing, leave it alone, you can royally screw your machine up permanently if you do it wrong. If I remember correctly your machine came factory overclocked, I would get in touch with them and ask for advice about how to reset default settings.

Yeah it did, balls...
What if I just take it into a PC repair shop? Are they likely to know how to deal with Overclocks, or is that specialist knowledge? And how much is it likely to cost?

Re: Deus Ex
Hmm I installed the latest Nvidia drivers and "so far" I've not had any crashes or blue screens, I think we all know by now that that means nothing, but the game was crashing frequently, like 3 or 4 times in the first mission which is quite short.
Thats the really annoying this about this problem, it may happen after 5 minutes of playing or 8+ hours of playing.
Loving this game by the way, there are so many ways to go through each mission, it's rare that you are given just one path. This is in real competition with the Witcher 2 for my game of the year, same level of amazing detail. Other than the AI acting a bit odd at times there's nothing really wrong with it.
I want to write about things that have happened to me in this game, but they are so good I don't want to ruin it for any of you that decide to get this game (GET THIS GAME!) things that have bothered me in other games and that have never been dealt with before, have been in this game.
Dialog between NPC's is usually fun to listen to, with little jokes and references, I'm sure I'm missing out on a lot of refences to the original Deus Ex, well actually all of them since I didn't get past the first 10 minutes of the game.
The story is done well enough though so far nothing has surprised me and I'm pretty sure I know what is coming up in the story, I've only really skimmed the e-books etc in the game but from what I've read it's pretty clear whats going to happen. There are tonnes of e-books, e-mails and pocket secretaries in the game if you really want to read all of them.
Playing on Deus Ex mode is damn hard, like any fire fight results in death, AI will see you if you go near their field of vision, and they are fast to react. I had recticles off which made it harder to aim earlier, I've turned them back on but now it's a bit easy, yeah I'm going to turn them off.
Square Enix should give the Final Fantasy series to the guys that made this, also they should fire the guys that made Final Fantasy 13... And shoot them so they don't work on other games.
GET THIS GAME! and the Witcher 2.

Ok yep just happened again so not fixed, thankfully if I press Ctrl+Alt+Delete as soon as it happens I appear to be able to stop the blue screen/reboot.

Re: Deus Ex
The only thing I really wish was different about this game is that I would have liked to have been able to make the choice about getting Augs or not, I would have liked for the game to start with me getting injuried, like lossing an arm and then being able to choose to get a new arm Aug or handicapping myself by only having one arm, which would have penalties, slow reloading not able to use heavy weapons etc. Or getting the arm Aug and having the choice to get more Augs as the game goes on. Or maybe lossing a leg and just using a simple prosthetic instead of an Aug.
I want to play a game where my character only has one arm, I usually do that on Byond (I'm also usually naked...).

Re: Deus Ex
Deus Ex isn't an rpg. It's a cyber punk action game. You can't have cyberpunk then take away the cybernetic's. That would just be crap.
It's why Deus Ex is so good, it paints such a fantastic cyberpunk vision. Never has the genre looked as good as it does here.
Also the plot is completely invalidated if Adam doesn't have Augmentations.

Re: Deus Ex
I think it can work, I don't dislike they way the story is at the moment it works perfectly well and if it was done in the way I suggested the story would have needed to be done differently, I know that there is a reason why Adam needs Augments for the story to work, I've only just got to China in the game but I can guess whats coming up regarding that. Also my idea would have caused the developers to write a lot more content since NPC's would have to react differently to you if you had no Augs.
Did you get the choice of becoming Augmented in the first Deus Ex? Or were you already Augmented.

Re: Deus Ex
The difficulty has ramped up pretty high now, I'm about 31 hours into the game and I'm getting into a lot of spots where I have no room to maneuver, well that is if I don't want to set off the alarms, which I do because enemies have become uber tough. I look at levels now and think to myself, I can't want to play this again but this time I'll go all stealth, but not use any hacking upgrades. Or something like that.

Re: Deus Ex
2 questions.
If I get a boxed version do I have to have the disk in the drive to play?
Is the Augmented edition, worth the extra coins?
