It's like Minecraft but in 2d, doesn't look like ass and appears to actually have gameplay attached. It even looks fun.

Very tempted. It's on Steam for £6.

    Edit. I've bought it.

I respect your wish to pay & play this and I’m not going to criticise you for doing so.

The difference between this and minecraft is theres actually stuff to do beyond go out and gather stuff just so you make stuff thats lets you go out and gather more stuff. The crafting would be enjoyable if it wasn't just lego and didn't involve hours of grinding materials. They are also not asking £15 from me for my virtual lego set.

Anyway enough MC bashing. This is basically minecraft in 2d. And being 2d you at least get hopelessly lost less.
You need a shelter as ever to hide from the bad guys, and you need to gather stuff. Monsters drop coins that can spend at merchant NPC's. NPC's will only appear under certain conditions and they need a house to stay in. there are only 6 of them so far. There are areas called the corruption on the surface where the harder monsters will always spawn. And are basically a big FU to exploring. In these areas altars spawn that can use to summon (which is basically craft) boss monsters such as the eye of cthulu. Dungeons exist, the entrance to which are guarded by a giant skeleton. At the bottom of the world is the underworld which is a fiery area of death filled with monsters eager to dish out said death.

    Plus points
Items do not appear to break. Thank fuck for that.
You start with your pick and axe.
Your inventory is tied to your character. When you join a new world you are already decked out in the stuff you've collected.
    Not got lost yet, hurray.
Theres actually a point, even if it is limited. It's like a very limited Castlevania.
Crafting is done from a list, no more remembering abstract shapes.

    Negatives
It's Minecraft, in 2d. With all the tedious grinding for materials intact.
Structures aren't quite as impressive in 2d.

Plus, I'm not playing it. I can't get over how tedious Minecraft is, and this much the same. Shame since the whole fighting thing seems fun. it's better than MC without a doubt, but still has the same flaws.

I've seen a few videos on it and have even been tempted, but I doubt I'll get it. I already have Minecraft and I'm very happy with that, I don't find it boring at all. I think the major thing this game lacks that Minecraft has is the fear, with Minecraft you can't see whats beside or behind you and things creep up on you, or make a sound but you don't know where it's coming from, thats what makes Minecraft exciting to play. I haven't played this game but I don't think you'll get that heart stopping gameplay from it. But yeah it is more of a traditional game than Minecraft is and has vastly more content and you don't need to remember how to make it, which is a plus and minus because while it's easier to work out as a new player it's not as much fun as working out how to do it. I doubt you'll get a wow moment when you see some crazy thing thats been randomly generated either, I know this game is randomly generated as well, but I doubt it will be as impressive.

There's so much crap attacking you all the time though on this game I can see that it will get really annoying really fast, where as in Minecraft I sometimes think there isn't enough attacking you, at least on the surface.

I love the first day on Minecraft, it has one of the steepest learning curves of any game, in that it doesn't help you at all and you have no time to waste. I can take my time now on the first day because I know exactly what I need to do, which is a shame because it's not as much fun any more.

I decided to buy this today, I was feeling a little bored and I've seen a few videos of it.

When I started the game I was going to come on and say that it's boring, but I think that was kind of my fault, I dug into the ground as all Minecraft players know it's the fastest way to build a shelter for the first night, and yeah I would say it is the fastest way on this as well. But the thing is I decided to knock out the wall of mud and put in a wood wall, knocking out wood walls with a wood hammer at least takes forever, it was sooo boring. It's almost as dull as mining obsidian in Minecraft. Mining and building in general are much less fun than in Minecraft, but to be fair to Terreria it's not as much about doing that as Minecraft is, Terraria has a lot more content. I've not really gone into a cave yet, I started digging under my house which I suppose I regret because digging is slow and a bit annoying really, of but like Minecraft you can get faster gear and in this your stuff doesn't break, which I was expecting to enjoy but actually I think I would like it to break, it's just when it the item breaks you get a break from digging to go and make more, when it's just dig dig dig it's not as much fun.

When I've found little caves etc underground I've not had the same thrill as I had in Minecraft, not in finding them or in wondering what monsters might be in there, I think because a lot of the cave is exposed before you even enter it you don't have the fear of the unknown, in Minecraft you have to put a lot of torches down before you can be fairly sure whats there and even so you can easily miss a cave over your head that will drop monsters into a room you think is safe, you turn around and say "Oh s**t" and crap yourself, I've not had that in Terraria yet. I did get a bit tense when I had to fight a worm for second time on Terraria, I say the second time because I didn't have trouble with it the first time. There are a lot more monsters in Terraria and they are quite a lot different from each other, which is good, you also have bosses which I'm looking forward to. I'm not going to say that the lack of monsters in Minecraft is a bad thing because each one of them is iconic, the only one thats a bit weak is the zombie, but the noise he makes in caves still scares the crap out of me. The Creeper is of course king of Minecraft.

I've not played much of Terraria yet but so far I would say that yes Minecraft is the better game, mostly because of the thrill you get when exploring caves. Terraria is a good game for different reasons than Minecraft, ok the thing is that the things they have in common, Minecraft does better BUT Terraria isn't just about those things, and I don't think it's really trying to be better than Minecraft in those things, Terraria must have been inspired by Minecraft but it wants to do other things as well.

I don't think I'll have the desire to play Terraria as much as Minecraft, but I've only just started so who knows. Don't get me wrong, yeah I think it's alright, but that won't keep me play past the middle of the night.

Now that I have a silver pick axe and a gold hammer (Gold items are actually useful in this) breaking up blocks is fast, I also found a very cool item called a magic mirror which teleports me back home, so no need to worry about getting stuck down a hole just need to use it and boom back home.

Got the grappling hook now as well which makes things sooo much easier, no more trying to build crappy bridges up to areas just to get two iron ore. Since I got the magic mirror I don't have to worry about getting out of places anyway but if I did want to its easy.

I've got some more new stuff, something which makes you run fast, which is a bit pointless unless you have a large stretch of flat ground. I've also got an item which lets you double jump, which kind of looks like you are farting, not jumping.

Mia, I also have a second hook if you don't have a grappling hook, I'll make one for ya.

I've been attacked by a boss a few times, I was going to say I've got little hope of beating it, but if I actually used my bow I might have done a lot better... trying to fight a flying thing with a sword isn't the best choice, I was doing 4 damage to it when I rarely hit it and it had 3000 hp.

Already have a grappling hook, ta, sure are cool. Speed Boots would be cooler if they gave you a smaller speed boost ALL of the time, rather than needing acceleration.

My world currently has me between a rock and a hard place. To the east theres the corruption with it's water filled chasms of death. And to the west theres a meteor with it's many burning heads of murderous intent. And me with nowhere near enough dynamite to get rid of it.

Mines fairly tame at the moment other than the giant eye boss that attacks sometimes and the red moon rising thing. Want to play online some time? Your right about the boots, thats what I was expecting when I found them, like I said you rarely get chance to actually build up speed.

Almost almost almost beat the eye boss last night, it was down to 700hp from 3000hp. Problem was there were bloody zombies getting in the way, I was getting stopped and hurt by them giving the eye chance to smash into me. I was using the nurse to heal early on so that I didn't waste potions, but she got dead, hopefully she respawns soon. Next time I'm going to make more potions both the 100hp and 200hp ones I didn't have as many 100hp potions with me and had no 200hp ones.

I also screwed up the meteorite, I built a sky bridge over most of the map and the meteor hit that and only left a small amount of meteorite on the bridge it didn't hit the ground. I'm going to use my second world to get meteors.

Been playing this the last few days again, just to see the new stuff really. Built an underground house which is pretty much immune to the red moon event. I built my hellevator in the only entrance to my house so when the zombies break through the first door of my house they walk in and fall down to hell, there's no head room so they can't jump over it, I need a grapling hook though to get into my house, I have double jump but thats a bit risky.

I tried to seal the annoying guide guy in a tiny room in my house with a glass wall facing into my house so I could watch him suffering in there, but sadly he teleported out, I'm just going to build a house for him that is out of my way and trap him in there, hopefully he will stay there.
