The Wii U Empty The Wii U

Ok just saw the new Nintendo console... Ummmm I'm not really sure what to say about it, it's interesting. It's good that they are trying to get hardcode gamers back. Visually the controller looks like a Gamecube controller and an iPad got funky. I don't really like that it's so clunky and big but you can use other things to control the games. I think for a family this is a really good idea, I used to fight with my sister all the time about watching tv or playing computer games. What would be even better is if you could play two different games say one on the controller and the other on the TV/the other controller. That way you could stop the I want to play this, no I want to play this arguements as well, but that might be asking a bit much. I like that the controllers screen lets you play games in different ways like putting it on the floor when playing golf to have the controller show the ball on the floor and then use the Wii motion controller to take the swing, ok thats a bit of a gimmick because you don't really need it but it's a nice touch. I'm sure the Zelda game will make really good use of the new controller. The main thing that I like about the controller and it's massive 6" screen is the way you can hold it up to the main tv and zoom in or interact with the larger screen it opens up new options for gaming.

I don't think this new console is going to hit the ball out of the park like the Wii did, it's really just a Wii.2.

I’ve just read that the controller wont be sold as a stand alone the only way to get another is to buy another Wiiu , apparently other players are meant to use Wii controllers.

That’s all well and good but I was hoping you could play multiplayer against each other using two or more controllers with screens a bit like giant DS’s, if one player has to use the big screen then they will be at a disadvantage as the other player can easily look up to see where they are. And what about the clips showing the screen used as a target scope, I guess that will be for single player only.

But I think it’s a step in the right direction for Nintendo.

Yeah that really sucks, I was hoping you could use those screens instead of split screen. I forgot to say about it in the first post but that was the most interesting thing about the screens. I suspect they will start selling the screened controllers at some point or Nintendo will have really dropped the ball. If you were playing a multiplayer game with the new pads you could use the main screen as something interesting for the other people in the room to watch, with say interesting camera angles of things that are happening in the match, views of the top of the map and stats etc of each player. Nintendo could have tried to bring gaming back into the home, Xbox and PS3 basically don't let you play split screen any more.

Yep you hit the nail on the head, I was thinking along the same lines myself, with a overall view on the bigger screen like an arena entertaining those that weren’t playing or waiting there turn.

If you and me had the same idea then others must have done so too, this concept cant of gone unnoticed by the big chiefs at Nintendo.

Odds are the controller is what you are actually buying when you buy the console. It's an impressive thing, and impressive things don't come cheap. Odds are if was available seperate it would have to retail for prob similiar to a DS. So £200 (if talking 3ds) for a controller? no ones going to buy it and they know it. But selling it for less is a huge loss for them.

Thats a very good point. Normal controllers are about £40 and this one has an HD tv and camera in it as well as all the junk that makes the games work. Thats going to be expensive. Yeah that might be the thing that damns this console. I mean I don't know if I would be happy about buying the console without that, but the console is going to be what £300 at least, it's not going to be cheap like the Wii I think it will be more like £400 so thats £600 maybe if the controllers were sold on their own.

I still don't know what I think about this console.
