    Firefox 4 Empty Firefox 4

Post by Darkstone Tue Mar 22, 2011 3:50 pm

Just updated to FF 4,a word of advice....dont do it.When I get home from work its coming off and FF 3.6 is going back on.

1.when starting it will not display my homepage (google) even though I`ve set it in every option I can find and it insists on displaying an empty page.

2.My bookmark toolbar will not display even though it is enabled,to get my toolbar to appear I have to disable it then re enable it

Yeah minor things but I dont wantto have to go through that bullshit everytime I fire up my browser.

    PS...6 times faster than 3.6 they say....I say bolloxs,its a lot slower

    *end of rant*

Firefox 4 gets a thumbs up from me. Almost nothing to detract from what you want to look at, your web page. Thus far it's a hell of a lot of faster, except for gmail and hotmail which seem a little slower.

Home page works fine me, although could be it's set to display an extension.

Only downside is the loss of the tab bar. Used to double click the top of my screen for new tabs. I imagine there a shortcut for it though I can get used to.

Never used any of firefoxes bookmark features. I love Opera and adore it's speeddial feature. Thankfully theres an extension for Firefox that replicates it, and hence I have a page of up to date thumbnails for my bookmarks.

Although it does make the posts on this forum red or blue, depending on whether a mod posted somewhere in that topic. Firefox 3 never did that. Maybe an add on issue. Investigation is in order.

Spent a bit more time with FF4 today and have now got it working how I like it.

    1. Homepage is now correct when starting
    2. Bookmarks bar now shows all the time
    3. Moved the home button back to the upper left instead of the bloody stupid upper right
    4. Moved the refresh button from the end of the address bar to its usual position on the upper right

Seems to be working okay now and yes it does seem to be faster for the majority of sites I use.I`m also getting the issue with coloured text if a mod/admin posts in a thread,I seem to remember Fen mentioning this a while ago happening in IE.I`ve popped onto the support forums and theres no mention of this there but I`ll look into it at the weekend when I have a bit more time.

hmm comfirmed, happens on firefox 4, Internet Explorer 8 - both 32 and 64 bit, and Chrome.

Firefox 3, Opera and Safari are all fine. All on Windows 7.

Fairly certain theres a topic this message should be in, but here is good enough i suppose.

HAZZZAH!!! I too now have white text! Thank god for racism, yeah no that was bad shouldn't have said that. There's no racism here we love all text colours.

It was a bit tiresome having to highlight the text whenever DS9 made a post and then every other post after that till one of you red guys make a post.

Okay I`ve been spending a bit of time with FF4 and its time to eat humble pie,I like it.Most if not all of my extensions have been updated or alternatives released so I have full control over how I have it function.I`ve also found work arounds for some of the annoying features such as the bookmark button showing on the right hand side of the bookmarks toolbar when you have the menu toolbar turned off,its now back where it belongs in the navigation bar.
All in all now I`ve been using it for a while it is a pretty good upgrade/release,you just need time to set it up and get used to how it operates.

Theres only a few add-ons that dont work for my install now but I have workarounds for a couple and the others are just situational and for convenience so I can live without them.

Piece of shit. I clicked on the update firefox tab and I've installed firefox 5. It just said it was an update with no warning that I was getting a "new" version. This new and improved one isn't compatible with the real player plug in that lets you download videos of youtube and whatnot. I tried doing a system restore but firefox wouldn't work at all after that. Piece of shit browser. It's IE for me from now on.

I'm still on three, and even that had an update today.

Could you not uninstall it via control panel and than re download an earlier version?

should be able to back em up, but I think it will ask you if you want to delete them when you uninstall.
