    Civ 5

    DO NOT GET THIS GAME!!!

It's too addicting, I can't stop playing because of the "just one more turn". I shouldn't have bought it, I'm supposed to be training to run in a marathon which is only 2 and a bit months away and now I can't leave my computer without real force.

It is definately the best Civ game yet, I've heard it's been dumbed down a bit to make it more accessible to players. I'm not sure whats been done, I haven't played a Civ game in a long time. Out of the two I have played (I had a beer mat of Civ 4 but never played it so not counting that) Civ 2 was my favourite. The combat has been vastly improved and the new one unit per square (Also they aren't squares now) is perfect, much more interesting and tactical, you have to think about where to place your units and how to make the best use of them. I don't know if it's new but there are now ranged units so archers can fire from a few squares a way but they aren't very strong.

You can also level units up when you get enough exp and they get improvements every level so you can build specialist units if you like you fighting in different terrains. You can improve how well your unit fights on rough terrain or on open ground or give them boasts fighting against cities or wounded enemies. I kept mine rounded but I might specialise next time I play. Combat also has nice animations now, one slightly annoying things is that every now and gain animations won't start for ages so you sit there waiting.

Very good game, but you have to have Steam to play it.

The combat in this one is by far the best they've done yet. Ai is bat shit retarded by it though. In all prev gams they just built 50 unit army stacks of doom, and now they can't and they can't cope with it. I guess it will be fixed someday
Cities are slightly dumbed down. No health, happiness etc etc. Don't even need an army in them anymore
    Looks nice as well

I think I will still stick with Civ2:Test of Time though.

I dominated the first game I played (Once I got the settings right) it was a huge map on the easiest setting. The AI didn't put up a fight and went down easy. I'm playing on the hardest setting now and the AI up through the era's like crazy, I was in the medieval age and they were launching nukes and getting ready for space. I wasn't playing to win though I just wanted to make a nice looking island. Barbarians getting annoying quickly at the end of a game they are just harmless annoyances. I'm getting bored being peaceful so I'm going to go to war soon on that hardest setting game, I don't think it will prove much, just that archers can't do much to tanks.

I think the thing that actually really disappoints me about this game is that the cultures aren't that different and the little differences they have don't last, for example the Japanese, they have a special unit of Samurai and a plane called Zero other than that they are exactly the same as the other cultures, and when you pass the point where samurai's get replaced with riflemen you can never build Samurai's again. After that you might as well be playing as anyone, there's no difference.

The music is done well and changes when you're at war, there is on track though that has a horrible high pitch noise, I think it might only be on the Japanese culture, it only lasts for a few seconds but it's nasty. I have a little tinnitus anyway so maybe I notice it more, I'm certainly the only person at work thats notices the noise the crappy radio makes. I like that England has the Hovis music.
