Naa modding cant do this, all modding does is fiddle with the game files.
Stil don't no what coursed it, the first thing to go was the remote receiver for the 360 controller so I rolled back to a restore point from a couple of days ago and that was it black screen no life at all not even in safe mode.
Back up now and restoring files fortenetly my steam files look ok as they where on the D partition.

Vis are you sure it wasn't your wife when she found out about the hentai mode and the nude option being ticked? Sounds like angry wife revenge to me.

Got most of it back now, so far steam saves, minecraft worlds, and some emails are missing.
Got to reinstall the none steam games but I have the witcher saves still.
This is a long shot but the problem could be with the hdmi cable going to the telly, every time it's connected the screen locks up, the TV received a software update yesterday so wondering if its something to do with that. I didn’t disconnect it before throwing a wobbly and shoving the recovery discs in. I think I was a bit hasty.

Well It appears that the update gave the TV priority over the monitor, I normally ran in duel mode (the same image on both) but I’m guessing because of the update the pc didn’t recognise it and reset to the standered setting giving priority to the TV and leaving the monitor blank, it didn’t accrue to me to check the TV, might have saved myself a lot of bother if I had. 
But that still doesn’t explain why the remote censer for the 360 controller was rejected by the OS it wouldn’t even let me reinstall drivers, but glad to say it's working again now.
I’m considering myself lucky as I’d moved the main Steam folder to the other part of the drive a few days earlier so it wasn’t affected, I only lost saves for Mafia and GTAV so not to bad. bit gutted about Minecraft though.
