Need security anti-virus etc

I've kind of left a massive gap in the prep for my new PC, i.e. security. So far the only software I'm buying (That doesn't come with the hardware it's for) is Windows 7. I have no real idea what to do for security, if worst comes to worst I'll just buy Norton 2011 but I'm not sure I really want to do that. Though to be fair Norton has done quite a good job of protecting my beloved Laptop (Putting not wanting me to play PSO aside).

Any tips for a full set of easy to install legal security, which is cheap? But not at the risk of being unsecure.

Nortons crap, don't do that.

I used to use Kaspersky anti virus, which is a good one. But now using Microsoft Essentials, which is free and free is always good. Not had a firewall installed for ages. Router does all the firewalling I need. Windows own firewall really is perfectly good enough for most cases.

Having free system resources > having a gazillion uselss apps running in the background.

I don't intend to use the internet much, but I most likely will end up using it because it's the nearest good internet access. I think I will want a good firewall, my PC is going to be fairly expensive so I don't want it damaged by virus' etc.

Mostly it'll be used for online gaming and Skype (Video chat with my sister who lives in Germany). On and Youtube etc.

How long does Kaspersky internet security last? You have to renew Norton every year, but it doesn't say with Kaspersky internet security.

Also there's a message at the botton saying:

NOTE: This is OEM software for System Builders and is to be purchased with hardware only.

Since I am buying hardware to build my PC it is ok ya?

yeah kaspersky needs a yearly subscription, I imagine the first year is included.

OEM is fine. If you are actually buying it with a new build, congratulations you are obeying the law
