I've ordered a male to male VGA cable to hook my laptop up to my TV, how well does the cable work, will there be any delay/lag?

Also will I get higher screen rez options in games etc or will the cable just stretch out the laptops screen size. My laptops screen size is 13" and my TV is 40" and my laptops screen rez goes upto 1280 by 800 don't know what the tv would be more I would guess since its HD. I doubt my laptop could really handle more than 1280 but I'd like to try.

You're not going to get any latency, unless you already experience it with all of your other equipment. What resolution you get depends on your video card. Laptops aren't known for having amazing graphics. I assume your telly is 1080p, but you aren't likely to get 1920*1080 that without a significant performance hit. Got to remember 720p is 1280*720 so you are already getting better than that by default.
You'll be able to select any resolution up to 1920*1080 I imagine, so all you can do is try them and see.
Your tv may well upscale the image to 1080p also, but that may introduce latency.

Ok thats all good to know, I get some trouble with a few games on 1280 so I doubt I'll be able to go higher, only on the most basic games. The only thing that concerns me now is that my tv doesn't handle movement in games well unless its in game mode, I don't know if the VGA (PC) slot will have game mode, I imagine it would since people play games on PC's but I won't know till I plug the laptop into the TV. The bottom of the screen breaks up a bit with fast movement, no problems in game mode though.

Looking forward to playing PSO, Byond and Napoleon Total War on that large beautiful screen, and try them out in mock 3D.

Might buy a new PC next year, a powerful gaming desk top would be nice, one that I can upgrade. I can use my TV for that and get a better one because I don't need to buy a monitor. Love my laptop but I can't buy new games for it anymore, I don't think there are any PC games that I actually want at the moment anyway.

Ok all my stuff arrived today and its working great, I've got the screen size set at 1920x1080 and that works great apart from the fact that I can hardly see what I'm writing, its so small. Games however don't work as well I have to use the same sizes I have on my laptops screen.

My only problem now is my mouse has the range of about a metre...
